Requirements for Bachelor's students

Bachelor’s students must meet the following requirements in order for Aarhus University to process an application for re-enrolment:

  • At the expected time of re-enrolment, you must have passed all examinations equivalent to the first year of studies on the Bachelor’s degree programme to which you wish to transfer. We recommend you to acquaint yourself with the academic regulations of the Bachelor’s degree programme in which you wish to re-enrol. AU may, under special circumstances, allow re-enrolment, even if the applicant has not passed study elements equivalent to the first year of study. In that case, you must upload an application for exemption in the application portal along with your application for re-enrolment.
You may also contact the student counsellors at Arts, Science and Technology, Health and Aarhus BSS for further information.
  • If you have not completed courses equivalent of the entire first year of the Bachelor’s programme at Aarhus University, you may apply for admission to the Bachelor’s programme through the Coordinated Enrolment System (KOT). In this case, you will also be asked to upload results and course descriptions from the courses you have passed at Bachelor’s level with a view to obligatory credit assessment.
  • There must be available slots at the relevant semester of the Bachelor’s degree programme. If there are more qualified applicants than available slots, the applicant(s) selected will be chosen by lot. Special conditions apply for Bachelor’s programmes with restricted admission.
  • You must meet the general and specific admission requirements of the Bachelor’s degree programme before commencement of studies.
  • If you have been expelled from the university, you must upload the letter of expulsion you received from the university.
  • If you have been administratively withdrawn (withdrawn by the university) from the study programme you wish to apply for re-enrolment to, you must apply for permission to apply for the same study program again. To apply for permission fill out this form (only available in Danish) and upload it to your application.

Requirements for Master's degree students

Master’s students must meet the following requirements in order for Aarhus University to process an application for re-enrolment:

Rules regarding re-enrolment

If you have been previously enrolled in the degree programme you are applying for admission to, please note that there are special rules for re-enrolment.

If you have withdrawn from the university yourself
If you have withdrawn from the university yourself, you may not be re-admitted to the same degree programme until five months after your withdrawal.

Examination right
Please be aware that you to not have any examination right in the same semester (or equivalent) in which you have been expelled. I.e. your examination right will not be resumed until the following semester, provided your re-enrolment is granted. This also applies if you have been administratively withdrawn by the university and have been granted a dispensation for re-enrolment in the same semester. If you are unsure about the status of your examination right, you are welcome to contact us. See contact information under Questions and Contact.

Previous exams
If you are re-admitted to the degree programme, you should note that any previous examination attempts and the results of any exams you have passed earlier will be carried over in your new enrolment. In certain cases this also applies, even though you are enrolled under new academic regulations. This also applies to the requirements for first-year examinations and any time limits that are specified in the current academic regulations for the programme in question.

If you have been administratively withdrawn or used all examination attempts
If you have used up your examination attempts or you have been administratively withdrawn from the degree programme, you must apply for a dispensation from the regulations on which your withdrawal is based. Your request for re-enrolment can only be processed if the board of studies at the degree programme in question is willing to grant you the necessary dispensation that will enable you to continue your studies.  Please note that a dispensation from the board of studies does not guarantee that you will be admitted: the dispensation is a prerequisite for your application to be considered.

If you have been expelled from the university, you must upload the letter of expulsion you received from the university.

Application deadline

There are two annual application deadlines. As from winter admission 2017/18, the application deadlines for re-enrolment will follow the national deadlines for applying for Master’s degree programmes, which means the coming deadlines are as follows:

  • 1 April 2017 with a view to commencement of studies in August/September 2017.
  • 15 October 2017 with a view to commencement of studies in January/February 2018.
  • 1 March 2018 with a view to commencement of studies in August/September 2018.

Please note that not all degree programmes are open for commencement of studies in January/February. Master’s programmes with winter admission will be announced.

Application for re-enrolment after the regular deadline
For some programmes, but not all, the application deadline will be extended (2nd round admissions). Please note your application will only be processed if the programme is open for 2nd round admissions, even though it is technically possible to submit an application to all programmes. If not, you will receive a letter of rejection.

Reply to your application

Applications for transfer and study change are processed regularly.

However, applications are not processed until after the application deadlines due to the process of clarifying of the number of available slots on the study programme in question.

In addition, especially for study programmes with restricted admission, our reply regarding admission or rejection can only be sent out very late, for some programmes not until right before or even after commencement of studies.

You have 1 week to accept a possible admission offer through the application system. /html>

Tuition fees

Non-EU/EEA/Swiss citizens without a permanent residence permit in Denmark are liable to pay tuition fees during their enrolment at Aarhus University.
